Sony Announces PS3 to PS4 Game Upgrade Plan

Sony Announces PS3 to PS4 Game Upgrade PlanOne of the biggest announcements to come out of Sony's media briefing, outside of the release date announcement, was that gamers who purchase PlayStation 3 versions of some games will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version at a reduced cost. Let's take a look at the entire process in full and answer any questions you may have.

How does this work?
When you buy a PlayStation 3 version of a game at retail, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, you will then be able to purchase a digital copy of the same game for your PlayStation 4 through the PSN.

What's the catch?
There is none! You just need to own a copy of the same on the PlayStation 3 to be eligible for this amazing deal. However, these deals will only be available for a limited time, so you'll need to act fast.

How much does it cost?
Sony has revealed that it will be up to the individual publishers to set their own prices for the upgrade plan. So far, we only know of what Activision is planning on doing with Call of Duty: Ghosts.

For Call of Duty: Ghosts, it will cost $10 to purchase a PlayStation 4 digital copy if you already own the game on the PS3. Essentially, you're getting both a PS3 and PS4 copy of the game for only $70, which is a steal.

What games can I do this with?
Currently, Activision, Ubisoft, EA and Warner Bros. are involved in the upgrade promotion with the following games: Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Watch Dogs and Battlefield 4.

Why should I bother?
To take advantage of the PlayStation 4's features, of course! This deal is aimed at users who may not be getting a PS4 at launch and will wait to get one around the holidays. This way, you don't need to miss out on great games like Watch Dogs when they release on the PS3 and, when you get a PS4, you can easily upgrade your copy to replay the game again with all the PS4 features intact.

In addition, some games, such as Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts, will carry your stats and unlocks over to the new console.

When Can I Start?
As soon as the PlayStation 4 is released! This deal will go live with the launch of the PlayStation 4, so budget your game purchases accordingly.
